Dermal melanocytosis is most often located in areas that are easily covered by clothing, reducing their potential for cosmetic concern.

Additionally, these treatments are usually reserved for cases where the lesions are significantly persistent or causing psychosocial distress.

Most infants will see a significant fading or complete disappearance of the lesions by the time they reach school age. In rare cases, the lesions may persist into adulthood, but this does not pose any significant health risk. The risk of complications, including scarring or malignancy, is minimal.
